I shrink heads. A marvelous profession. Helping people feel better.
I have twenty-five years of experience in psychiatry. I routinely treat patients with depression, PMS, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder and illnesses not easily categorized.
My treatment philosophy:
1) I work for the patient,
not the other way around; and
2) if I do my job right, there will come a time that the patient won't
need me any more.
I encourage patients to take meds on schedules and in dosages that let them feel comfortable: after all, it's your body. You should determine what goes in it, when and how.
I prescribe medicine (and these days, I recommend some herbal
preparations);
I work with patients in psychotherapy; and I use EMDR.
I also teach psychiatry, with a special interest in clinical wisdom
I wish someone had told me when I was just starting out. I am
particularly
concerned with the ethics of mental health practice. I maintain a
number
of web pages on wisdom and
ethics.
